Aliyu has over seventeen years of working experience that cuts across administrative, internal, international and maritime boundary sectors of Nigeria. He completed his PhD in Marine Resource Management from the department of Geography, University of Portsmouth in 2015. His PhD examined the stakeholders’ perception and use in the employment of the 2011 published Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission-United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (IOC-UNESCO), Transboundary Waters Assessment Programme-Large Marine Ecosystems (TWAP-LME), indicators to the management and assessment of shared transboundary marine fishery resources within the Guinea Current Large Marine Ecosystem (GCLME) in addition to the prevention of Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) fishing within the West African sub-region.

Prior to that, he held a Bachelor of Technology B Tech. degree in Urban and Regional Planning (Environmental Technology) from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi in Nigeria and a Masters’ degree MSc in Coastal and Marine Resource Management from the University of Portsmouth in 2001 and 2010 respectively. He has been working with the Nigeria’s National Boundary Commission since 2003 and held various positions cutting across administration, research & policy analysis, interstate boundaries and maritime boundaries & geo‐informatics departments.
