Alioune Kane

Alioune Kane is a Full Professor of exceptional class of physical geography, specialist in continental hydrology. He coordinates the West African Network of NEPAD Centres of Excellence on Water Science and Technology (WANWATCE). Prof. Kane served as the Head of the Geography Department (2002-2004) and as the Director (2008-2014) of the "EDEQUE" (Doctoral School "Water, Water Quality and Water Uses") of the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar. He was also the Head of the GIDEL (Integrated Management and Sustainable Development of the West African Coastline) from 1997 to 2017. Currently, he is the scientific manager of the doctoral courses on "IWRM", "Continental Hydrology" and "Coastal Governance". Prof. Kane has more than thirty years of research experience in the fields of integrated water resources management (IWRM) and coastal management (ICZM). Prof. Kane also participates in the setting up, animation and development of research projects such as the ARTISTICC project on the adaptation of coastal communities to climate change, ICP-AMP on “methodologies for the management of Marine Protected Areas”. He also participates in the vulnerability assessment of African River with UNEP, the ACT4SSAWS on efficient IWRM practices for water security for the benefit of populations south of the Sahara., to name but a few.
