University of Malawi
I'm a postgraduate student enrolled in the University of Malawi, pursuing a Master of Philosophy in Environmental Protection and Management, under the supervision of Dr Ishmael Kosamu and Dr Friday Njaya. My professional background stems from Social Sciences and currently I am working for the Government of Malawi in the Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare. For as long as I can remember I have been passionate about social matters, specifically gender-related matters, and only recently have I taken an interest in small-scale fisheries management. With the increase of ecosystem fragmentation, pollution, power imbalance in fisheries and climate change, I decided to come into this field of study to learn more about how I can be part of the solution considering that these vulnerable fisheries-based livelihoods are, and will continue to be, most affected by environmental disasters. I will be using the V2V I-ADApT Framework to support my research, which is aimed at investigating women's perceptions of the long-term impacts climate change will have on small-scale fisheries, within the Lake Chilwa Basin, as well as explore the coping mechanisms to attain a viable small-scale fishery.
