S M Munjurul Hannan Khan is Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of Bangladesh and Executive Director, Center for Environment and Climate Change Research. He has a master’s in development economics from Williams College, USA, and Doctoral degree in Natural Resource Management from the University of Manitoba, Canada. He is involved in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) negotiations as one of the lead negotiators of the Government of Bangladesh. He is also involved with a number of global and national research projects on climate change, biodiversity conservation and environmental management.
Dr. Khan has more than 30 years of management, technical, research and advisory experience in environmental management, climate change, sustainable energy development, natural resources management, waste management, biodiversity conservation, agriculture, food security and community‐based natural resource management in Bangladesh. It also includes teaching experience at the undergraduate and post‐ graduate levels. Also, has accumulated national and international consultancy experience with various national and international agencies. Being a civil servant in Bangladesh, currently he is adjunct faculty at the North South University and BRAC University, Bangladesh as well as University of Manitoba, Canada. His key experiences include senior level public sector management experience in Bangladesh; climate change negotiations, implementation of mega-projects on adaptation, mitigation, climate finance and capacity building; donors’ liaison, stakeholder engagement and consensus building; national, regional and international research program; participatory project design, planning, management, M&E and project implementation.
