INTERNATIONAL WEBINAR ON POST COVID CHALLENGES FOR GLOBAL AND LOCAL COMMONS

An International webinar on “Post COVID Challenges for Global and Local Commons” took place on July 23rd, 2020. This webinar involved four speakers with a variety of disciplines including Himadri Sinha the Professor and Head Rural Management Programme at Xavier Institute of Social Service, Prateep Kumar Nayak an Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo in Canada, Subrat K. Singh the Programme Director Foundation for Ecological Security in Anand Gujarat and Ana Carolina E. Dias an Interdisciplinary Researcher at both the University of Waterloo and Campinas. Each speaker focused on a specific issue post COVID with a common theme being the Commons. Prateep Nayak discussed the local Commons and how they are complex, both socially and ecologically while Ana Carolina Dias focused her discussion on the Commons in coastal areas and the link between ecosystem services and social wellbeing for coastal governance. These discussions and presentations spoke to the vast complexity of global and local commons and the range of impacts a global pandemic like COVID has on all scales.
