Dr. Amrita Sen completed her PhD from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. She is trained in environmental sociology. She uses a regional political ecology perspective to understand forest conservation methods and natural resource conflicts. She is an Assistant Professor of sociology at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. Her expertise is in qualitative research methods and she largely employs ethnography as a method and practice. She is currently completing her book manuscript entitled A political ecology of forest conservation in India: communities, wildlife and the state, which would be brought out by Routledge, tentatively in 2021.
